Effective date: 2 September 2026
1. Purpose and scope
MathsWithDan is committed to providing a respectful and safe online learning environment. This policy applies to Daniel Akinleye, any tutor or contractor delivering MathsWithDan services, students, parents/guardians and users of live classes, course areas and communications.
2. Safeguarding contact
Safeguarding concerns should be sent promptly to Daniel Akinleye at info@mathswithdan.com with “Safeguarding concern” in the subject line. If a child or another person is in immediate danger, call 999.
Concerns may also be reported directly to the relevant local authority children’s services or police.
3. Our approach
- The welfare and best interests of children are treated as a priority.
- Concerns are listened to, recorded factually, handled sensitively and shared only with people or authorities who need the information.
- We do not promise absolute confidentiality where safety may require information to be passed on.
- We seek to use age-appropriate, professional communication and appropriate boundaries.
- We take reasonable steps to reduce avoidable exposure of personal information in lessons and recordings.
- Safeguarding decisions are made according to the concern, the child’s interests and applicable law and guidance.
4. Online lesson expectations
Students must
- use an appropriate display name and communicate respectfully;
- follow reasonable teaching and safety instructions;
- avoid sharing personal contact details, school location, home address, passwords or private images;
- not record, screenshot, photograph or share any lesson or participant;
- not bully, discriminate, threaten, use sexual or abusive language, or share harmful or unlawful material;
- tell Daniel, a parent/guardian or another trusted adult if something causes concern.
Parents and guardians should
- ensure MathsWithDan has accurate contact information;
- help the child access lessons from an appropriate setting and provide age-appropriate oversight;
- avoid recording or distributing lessons and protect lesson links/account details;
- raise learning, behavioural, accessibility or safety concerns promptly.
Tutors and contractors must
- maintain professional boundaries and use approved business channels;
- avoid unnecessary private or secret communication with a child;
- not request or share inappropriate personal information or content;
- respond to disclosures calmly without leading questions, preserve relevant evidence and report concerns promptly;
- comply with applicable vetting, conduct, data-protection and safeguarding requirements for their role.
5. Recordings and privacy
A live lesson may be recorded so enrolled students can review it where this is part of the service. Participants will be informed through the service information or lesson platform. Students should avoid disclosing private information. Where reasonably possible, MathsWithDan will use settings and teaching practices that minimise unnecessary capture of students. Recordings are access-controlled course material and must not be shared by users.
6. Responding to concerns
When a concern is received, MathsWithDan will consider immediate safety, make an accurate record, preserve relevant information, consult or refer to the appropriate safeguarding or emergency authority where necessary, and share no more information than reasonably required. We will not investigate a possible crime ourselves or confront a person in a way that could increase risk.
7. Breaches and complaints
We may warn, mute, remove or suspend a participant to protect students or the learning environment. Serious conduct may be reported to a parent/guardian, school, platform provider, police, local authority or other appropriate body. Complaints about our handling of a concern can be sent to info@mathswithdan.com and will be reviewed fairly. This policy will be reviewed when services or relevant requirements materially change.
